Tina Roth Eisenberg didn’t plan to become an entrepreneur. “I don’t think I’m the entrepreneur type,” she confesses. “I’m more like, ‘Yeah, that looks like fun’ or ‘Yeah, we could use this!’” But don’t let her humility fool you—Eisenberg’s tenacity has spawned a small empire that includes a booming temporary tattoo business, an app company, a co-working space, a monthly lecture series, and a popular blog.
Eisenberg originally came to New York City as a graphic designer, fresh out of school and intending to move back home to Switzerland. She instantly fell in love with the city, however, and settled in for the long haul. Though her plans to leave NYC have fallen by the wayside, her passion for design and love of creative spaces live on and continue to inspire her work as a business owner.
Most of Eisenberg’s businesses started out as side projects. “I thought it would be fun to do this thing, or I saw a need for it, and then they evolved into businesses,” she explains. That includes Tattly, her temporary tattoo business that partners with independent illustrators to create unique, “designy” tattoos. Their team of 10 ships worldwide from their studio in the DUMBO neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York, led by Eisenberg’s vision.
Leading that team challenges Eisenberg to be her best, most organized, most patient self, which is not always easy. “Sometimes it’s a little lonely to be the boss, to be at the top,” she admits. “Being a boss is really hard work!” Her care for her team keeps her motivated, however—“It’s really important to me that they love their job and that they love their environment.”
