Feeling Spooky? Learn How These Entrepreneurs Carved Out Their Niche

For Marc Evan and Chris Soria, pumpkin carving isn’t a casual autumn pastime—it’s a high stakes feat of creativity and skill. “You’re racing the clock. Once you cut into that pumpkin, the clock is ticking.”

Marc and Chris are the founders of Maniac Pumpkin Carvers, a small business that creates ornate custom-designed pumpkins. They’ve carved pumpkins for clients like Food Network, Dos Equis, the World Series, and more than a few NFL teams.

Using printmaking tools to carve out impossibly fine details, Marc and Chris spends hours on each pumpkin. They take pride in sourcing their materials locally—so locally, in fact, that it’s not uncommon to find a New York City taxi cab pulling up to their studio, packed to the brim with soon-to-be jack-o-lanterns.

“As artists, the business side of things hasn’t come too smoothly or easily,” they say. Figuring out how to turn a profit from their creative work took time for Marc and Chris. Now, thankfully, there’s plenty of demand for Maniac’s spooktacular work. Just take a peek at this video to see why!
