How This Small Business Owner Is Keeping the Art of Photography Alive

Armand Kohandani doesn’t just buy and sell cameras. He’s a proud member of a growing creative community in Denton, Texas that’s breathing life into the art of photography.

When Armand opened Denton Camera Exchange, his inventory was small, but his goal was clear: “I wanted to create a business that would serve the creative community in town, instead of compete against it,” he explains. “Something that could foster a little bit of growth, community, and good feelings.”

For Armand, building a creative community meant going beyond his role as a businessman—it meant giving back to other aspiring photographers, too. “When I was cutting my teeth as a photographer, there was nobody else out there to ask questions to, or to bounce ideas off of.” Armand hopes he can be that resource for his fellow creators in Denton.
